Plaza Community Services partners with licensed family child care (FCC) providers under the Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCCHEN) program. We aim to extend our early education services beyond our centers by partnering with family child care providers in areas of need. Our goal is to offer subsidized, quality child education services for free or at a low cost to children from 6 weeks to years old.
What is FCCHEN?
FCCHEN is a program that is funded by California’s Department of Social Services (CDSS) that provides Plaza Community Services with the ability to create and monitor a network of carefully selected licensed family child care providers. Our FCCHEN program is funded by the CDSS’s Child Care and Development Division’s General Childcare and Development Program (CCTR). Eligibility and needs are determined by factors set forth by CDSS.
Why FCCHEN?
The FCCHEN program is a beneficial child education program, as it sets a partnership between the child, parent/guardian, FCC provider, and Plaza specialists to provide a quality learning environment that meets the needs of each child. FCC providers in our network are carefully selected to meet our standards based on their environments, education, and experience. FCC providers offer non-traditional hours in a home-like environment where children can be supported in their home language.
FCC providers are visited on a bimonthly basis, sometimes more, depending on need, by a child development specialist (CDS). The CDS ensures developmentally appropriate materials and activities are offered to children, the environment is kept safe and suitable for young learners, and they provide technical assistance to providers as needed. On top of monthly visits, our program utilizes various tools used by the CDSS to monitor and support children’s development (Desired Results Developmental Profile), evaluate and improve learning environments and interactions (Family Child Care Environmental Rating Scale), and evaluate the program as a whole (Parent Survey).
